Vitamins have been found to play a crucial role in a balanced nutrition, however, there are certain benefits which are derived from taking certain supplements and essential vitamins as you age so as to for the betterment of later years.

The fact that aging is inevitable remains sacred and mostly it is beyond the control of an individual but, there are many facets of healthy aging which are within our reach to at least help a little. The body begins to display some signs of aging in the thirties as we start to lose muscles, in the forties and fifties, the bones become brittle, the joint becomes stiffer, reduction in energy level and there is a variation in the way the body breaks down and utilize nutrients.

This result in changes in the way our body absorbs key vitamins as we age, we become less agile, participate in less physical activities, and in turn run the risk of heart disease, weight gain, diabetes, and a sensation of getting older than we are.

The B vitamins are popular for the role they play in converting food into energy. However, as we age, they tend to become important to the health of the logical functioning of the body. Also, as we age, the body finds it difficult to absorb B vitamin, especially vitamin B12. It is therefore important to ensure enough vitamin B12 to get good health as you age. Meat, fish, milk, cheese, and eggs are good sources of B12 vitamins. However, these vitamins are required in larger quantities for healthy aging.

  1. Vitamin D

The health of the bone and joint decreases as we age, this results in higher risk of increases losing stability resulting in falls, causing stiffness, pain, and a decrease in movement. Vitamin D helps with calcium absorption, which is essential for bone strength and osteoporosis prevention.  Consider supplementing your diet with 400 IU of vitamin D, with the help of maintaining physical mobility, preventing fractures, reducing your risk of cardiovascular problems, diabetes and some types of cancer, making it one of the key vitamins as you age.

Calcium tends to leave our bones and be less effectively absorbed as we age, this results in a higher risk of osteoporosis, fall, and fracture. Weight-bearing exercise such as yoga, walking, and resistance training will help maintain strong bones and considering getting at least 1,000 mg of calcium to make sure your bones stay strong and healthy as you age.

  1. Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the most important antioxidants, Vitamin C, is a natural way of slowing down the aging process and reducing cell damage, making it one of the essential vitamins as you age. Apart from being essential for the proper functioning of the immune system, Vitamin C helps to repair the tissue and maintain healthy bones, gums, and teeth.

  1. Omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3-fatty acids are popular for their beneficial effects on reducing inflammation and as one of the heart’s healthy fats which are found in fish, however, omega-3-fatty acids are also useful for memory and cognitive functions. In fact, the addition of fish oil is associated with reduced risk of dementia and better overall health of the brain.

If you do not consume enough omega-3-fatty acids directly from your diet by eating at least two ounces of oily fish a week, you may need to add 2 grams (2000 milligrams) of this supplement for healthy aging.
